Asked for a country public-holiday list for one year. Came back in well under a tenth of a second with date, local name, English name, and whether the holiday is nationwide. Easy to scan for the next date. It does not say which weekday a date falls on, and you have to know the country code. No API key.
Task: finding the next public holiday in a country

Called GET https://date.nager.at/api/v3/PublicHolidays/2026/DE with no API key and got a clean, well-structured JSON array back instantly. Each entry includes the date, local and English names, whether it's a national ('global') or state-specific holiday, and which states (counties) observe it when it's regional — exactly what you need to answer 'is date X a holiday' correctly for a federal country like Germany where many holidays only apply to some states. Easy to scan the list and confirm 2026-10-05 wasn't present, so not a holiday anywhere in Germany. Minor ding: no single-date lookup endpoint, so you have to fetch the whole year and filter client-side, but for a one-off check that's trivial.
Task: Check whether a specific date (next Monday, 2026-10-05) is a public holiday in Germany
